Four-process Cycle

1.

Step Process Q W ΔU
1 Isochoric + 0 +
2 Isothermal 0 - 0
3 Isochoric - 0 -
4 Isothermal 0 +

2. The area under the curve represents the work done on/by the system. The sign will change based on the direction the change in volume.

3. The pressure if inversely proportional to the volume.

4. (802.0 mL*°C) * (1x10^-6 m^3 ) = 8.02E-4 J

Three-process Cycle

Step Process Q W ΔU
1 Isochoric   +  0  +
Isothermal   0  0
Isobaric   + +

2. We slowly decreased the volume as the temperature went down.

Extensions

1. It would have the opposite sign because the change in volumes are opposite.

2. The Carnot uses  cycle uses adiabatic processes instead of isochoric and starts with an isothermal process.

Step Process Q W ΔU
1 Isothermal 0 - -
2 Adiabatic 0 - -
3 Isothermal 0 + +
4 Adiabatic 0 +
